At long last, here they are! They were supposed to have been distributed by the Doom Help Service, starting three years ago when I posted them (this sort of thing is one thing the DHS is supposed to be for, after all), but they have not been, despite repeated requests, and I for one have become fed up with waiting for the DHS people to get their act together (and with repeated requests to send the bloody things, even though I’m not in any position to do wide-scale distribution of stuff due to not being on-line all that often).
Hence, I have decided to do myself what Ian Mapleson should have done in 1996! Note that, contrary to what it says on the DHS Icons Page, I am not interested in what anyone thinks of these icons (nobody has ever praised them, at least not to me); I know they’re probably cr@p, but given the severe and insurmountable limitations of Windows .ICO format (32x32 in 16 pre-determined colours), can you do any better? Can anyone?
For this reason, I have not given my e-mail address anywhere on this page. If you don’t like them, don’t use them...
(I am especially sick of being flamed for the poor appearance of the DHS Icons Page, and of the lack of proper download links thereon. Although I provided the contents, said page is nothing to do with me; if anyone deserves to be flamed, it’s the page owner, Ian Mapleson.)
Late addition, 12/Feb/2001: (new millennium, same old
problems...)
Please do not ask me for the individual .ICO files; I no lomger have them
(I’ve been critically short of hard-drive space for the past three
years), and in any case, the only purpose for which I authorise use
(associating with files) does not need the individual files; the icons
can be used directly from the DLL.
